Mal Webb and Kylie Morrigan
Opening the program are two of the most original, innovative and inspiring performers of the international folk, roots and acoustic music scene. Mal Webb and Kylie Morrigan bring a multi-instrumental, looping, beatboxing songwriter together with a great violinist with a beautiful voice. Their arrangements are intricate, inventive, playful and unique. Exquisite and mindblowing, yet quite unlike anything you’ve heard before. Is this the folk music of the future?
Vocal adventurer, multi-instrumentalist and looping beatboxing songwriter Mal Webb sings his brain provoking songs using all sorts of vocal techniques, guitar, mbira, slide trumpet, trombone, chromatic harmonica and a loop recording pedal called Derek. And Kylie, who played with Orchestra Victoria and the likes of Stevie Wonder and Barry White, provides violin and voice in a perfect balance to Mal’s unstopable creativity. Their arrangements are intricate and playful. Imagine Einstein, Dr Seuss and Paganini combined into one wonderful performance. Better still, come and enjoy them for your self.
Traditional Graffiti

Traditional Graffiti is a collective of musicians celebrating British Folk music at its best. The core of the band, now resident in Australia, grew up in the UK, immersed in their local folk traditions; at home; at school; on the radio; or at community events. Having experienced the 1960’s/70’s folk revival first–hand at folk clubs, concerts and festivals, as well as in small groups of like minds sharing and writing songs across Britain, they have dedicated much of their lives to developing one of the best folk bands ever to come out of those far flung isles. Some of the band have over 40 years experience teaching and performing English traditional dance.
As Traditional Graffiti, and in their previous incarnation as the famous ‘Wheeze & Suck Band’, they have appeared around Australia, including numerous Woodford Festival appearances, Port Fairy, and the National Folk Festival. The band has also toured New Zealand twice, with headlining spots at Auckland and Wellington Folk Festivals, and have, of course, also appeared regularly across the UK. Needless to say, they have appeared severl times over the past decade at the Troubadour and are, without any doubt, one of the most popular and enjoyable bands we have had the pleasure of presenting. This is a very welcome return visit!
