Cope Street Parade
Cope Street Parade are one of Australia’s most acclaimed high energy music ensembles. They blend spicy rhythms with unique song writing that span the genres of folk, pop, gypsy and swing. With tender ballads and rollicking dance numbers they capture the spirit and warmth of early music styles and successfully blur the lines between the contemporary and the classic. Influences include Louis Armstrong, Louis Prima, Father John Misty and Leadbelly. The hot sounds of gypsy swing mixed with element of New Orleans traditional jazz meld together to create a style of folky jazz music that sounds both new and old yet always uniquely Australian, as if Django Reinhardt met Louis Armstrong in a good old ozzie country pub.
This is Australian swing music. The hot sounds of gypsy swing mixed with element of New Orleans traditional jazz meld together is a hotpot of cold beers and sunshine to create a style of music that sounds both new and old yet always uniquely Australian. Think if Django Reinhardt met Louis Armstrong in a good old country pub.
Formed in 2009, The Parade has performed at major music festivals and venues across Australia, such as the Wangaratta Festival of Jazz, Sydney Festival, Bellingen Winter Festival, Manly Jazz Festival, Jazzgroove Summer Festival. In 2018 they toured Europe for the first time performing 25 concerts in Italy and Sicily. The band has also been lucky enough to collaborated with Lulo Reinhardt, Dan Barnett, Geoff Bull, Bob Henderson and Bob Barnard. Their self-titled debut album was released in 2010 and since then they have released six studio albums to rave reviews and captivated audiences across the country.
Personel: Justin Fermino – Saxophones/Voice; Aaron Flower – Guitar/Voice; Ben Panucci – Guitar/Voice; Sam Dobson – Double Bass/Voice
“This is ecstasy.” – John Clare, Sydney Morning Herald
“The tenor is Fermino’s instrument and he produced the romantic, rhapsodic elements and the dark, muscular drive characteristic of early Coleman Hawkins.” – Sydney Morning Herald
“It’s like Belle Epoque Paris decided – against the laws of space and time – to hold a luau in Redfern.” – Max Lavergne, Triple J
“A parallel in some ways to the Hoodangers in Melbourne. Here, the Cope Street Parade presents…the sentimental, the directly emotional and the downright funny and sometimes bawdy.” – Music Trust, Loud Mouth.
“…Fermino’s songwriting is too personal to be pretence, some of the elements border on farcical yet their heartfelt and impeccable performance carry them easily.” – Lucian McGuiness, Australian Jazz
Martin and Mearns
with special guest appearance from Mary O’Mahony!
Warm vocal harmonies from singer/songwriters Dave (Smiley) Martin and Chris Mearns blend with bass and acoustic guitar to produce song experiences with strong heartbeats and rhythmic energy. Martin & Mearns refresh memories of songs you may have forgotten but will soon be humming and loving all over again. Every so often, they reveal their own songs, giving you something new to experience and take away. Old song or new, Martin & Mearns will strike a chord with you that may trigger a tap of the foot, a smile or even a little tear – what Dave and Chris describe as ‘the Martin & Mearns experience’.
Following a good stint together in the 90s with Sydney-based Bush/Country/Rock band Handpicked, Dave and Chris formed their own band and started songwriting together. Their musical paths then diverged, except for the occasional catch up in which time Chris became a valued member of other bands and Dave recorded a solo album of original music – including several songs written with Chris. Gigs on Lord Howe Island in 2024 as a duo, catalysed new songs and ignited the development of Martin & Mearns.

Tickets just $20/25.
